LCGC Publications

In days gone by, it was normal for a Bar Steward and his good lady to look after the food and drink needs of the members. LCGC had a succession of great characters who not only looked after the bar, but also ran the little 'Pro Shop', gave golf lessons, and helped out on the course as well. Meanwhile, the Stewardess was always on hand to rustle up a snack or cater for larger gatherings.

Before we get too nostalgic for earlier days - although the era of the 'multi-purpose' Steward appears to have gone forever - the bar and catering arrangements at LCGC are in truly great shape. Part-time Bar staff ensure there is always someone there at peak times [although the club is too small to justify keeping the bar open late into the night].

The catering is in the very capable hands of Wendy Taylor and her team, who, though not employed by the club, sweep in to provide some delightful fare whenever called upon to do so.

Opinions, which were vociferously in favour of an attempt to return to the previous arrangements, have gradually come round to the view of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!' And it certainly ain't broke!

For Societies and Home Matches, Wendy can always be relied on to come up with the goods - but if you are visiting as a small group, you might want to discuss the situation with the Secretary/Manager in advance, and if no catering is available, he will suggest alternatives.
