Hard though it is to believe now, the terrain at one time was largely treeless, and covered with large expanses of heather, broom and gorse. Now every fairway has trees to contend with - in some cases directly in the path to the green as well as up either side. The aerial shot [as opposed to air-shot!] below shows the extent to which the trees have encroached - not only down the side of holes, but also on occasions in direct line of shot to the green.

One of the many hazards encountered comes as early as the 2nd tee, where the shot is taken over a former claypit [nearby Brick Kiln Lane is testimony to its earlier use]. This brings additional meaning to the discussion as to who is driving at the first hole in a Foursomes event......

As mentioned earlier, there is always something to trap the unwary, and the final shot to the 18th, even if you've left yourself a shot from the tee, can be a card-wrecker.

We aren't going to show you all of the course - you'll have to see that for yourself!
