Contrary to popular belief, there is no long-winded ritual associated with joining most Golf Clubs, especially when there is no waiting list as is the case at many golf clubs at present. To become a member, you should write to the Secretary at the club. He will be happy to give you details and also put you in touch with the membership secretary of the relevant section. If you don’t know anyone who is a current member, the membership secretary will provide assistance to introduce you to members who will act as your ‘sponsor’. Your sponsor will take responsibility for supporting your application, and if successful, will help you to ‘integrate’ into the club. You will also be invited to meet the Captain of your section for an informal discussion. In the majority of cases, that’s all there is to it! Your invitation to become a member should follow soon afterwardsIf there is any doubt about your suitability, the reasons for this will be explained to you. If the doubts concern your playing ability, then there may be other opportunities, such as temporary membershipYou may have a number of questions you would like to ask.One popular myth is that golf is a very expensive pastime. This may have been true in the past, but it’s no longer the case. Golf now compares very favourably with most other sports and pastimes - yes, there is a ‘getting started’ cost, but this should be viewed in the context of months and years of entertainment, fresh air and exercise. If you have further questions or wish to apply for membership, please call in, contact the Secretary by telephone or email as shown on the Contacts page or click here for a Contact form |
