It's Dad's Army Jim, But Not As We Know It!!

And so it came to pass. The force of  the arrived at LCGC on Saturday October 13th.

Arriving at the clubhouse around 7:30am and ready to inspect his troops. Resplendent in his World War 2 Captain’s regalia, Jim elegantly jumped out of his 1934 Austin 7 automobile, flipped his swagger stick under his  arm and marched off to the clubhouse.  The beginnings of a quite considerable crowd, had already gathered to partake of the new Captain’s invitation to breakfast on warm Danish Pastries, Croissants and coffee before the Drive In.  Having spent half an hour or so chatting with his ever-growing army of golfers, friends and fans, and obviously comfortable in his newly acquired persona of Captain Mainwaring, Jim headed off to the 1st Tee to strike the first blow in what was to be a really enjoyable and fun filled day of golf, food, lots of drink and a credible amount of money raised for his charity which is LCGC.

The Captain addressed and hit the first ball off the tee which exploded and dropped about 1meter in front of him, but his second drive shot off the tee at great speed and landed slightly right of centre on the fairway into a little square of land that had been rented by Sharon Moore, so she won £20.

Sharon also won the Fun Comp that followed, involving 35 players, beating Mark Burge and Brian Willmor  into 2nd and 3rd place. Although all 3 winners came home with 40 Points, countback took its toll. All prize Money (£110) was donated to The Captain’s Charity, so many thanks to Sharon, Mark and Brian.

This was the first day of what promises to be an exciting and fun filled year at LCGC under the guidance and watchful eye of our new Captain Jim Ellingham. It’s worth remembering that any monies raised this year, will come back to the club as The Captain’s Charity is LCGC
